Pop Culture League Challenge: Olympic Medal Winner

I'm a little late to the party, but this week's Pop Culture League Challenge was:

If _____ was an Olympic sport, I’d have a gold medal around my neck.

Well, I can think of one thing right off the top of my head. If being fickle was an Olympic sport, I'd be a gold medal winner every single time. I've been fickle since my childhood, never really focusing on one thing for very long, easily getting distracted and moving on to something else. It's carried on into adulthood, with me picking up and dropping hobbies within a matter of months. I've had entire libraries on brewing and knife making, both things I thought I would enjoy, only to lose interest completely. I've bought game systems and handfuls of games, only to stop playing them within a few days, eventually selling everything off a few months later. I think I've gone through at least 2 or 3 Sega Dreamcasts like that.

In fact, the only hobby I've stuck with for a long period of time is this blog. I'm going on three years with this thing now, a definite record for me. I'll admit, I've been tempted to close it down and move on to something else, but I actually enjoy doing this too much.

So, maybe that means I'll only get a silver medal for fickleness at the next Olympics.

  1. There's something about blogging that grabs a hold of you, whether It's blogging about toys, vacations or foods you've eaten.I've become so accustomed to the whole ritual of It .Getting my cup of coffee ready ,organizing my thoughts and then settling into my seat to begin typing ,has become not only habitual, but therapeutic as well. The cool thing about blogs Is that hell, even If you lose interest In whatever It Is your blogging about, you can always blog about that. And then change the theme to somewhat reinvent yourself.BTW I love the "Tales From The Darkside-ish" header ;)

    1. You're definitely right about that Tony. And the nice thing is, if you don't buy a domain, you can do it absolutely for free.

I think if I made it a ritual, it might get easier to do again. Then again, becoming too strict may cause me to lose interest. Guess I'll have to try it and see.

Glad you like the new header. If you haven't already seen Stranger Things on Netflix, you should check it out!

    2. Amen, I hear man! I'm very similar, my interests really ebb and flow. I always come back to video games, toys, cards, tabletop gaming, movies, TV and holidays though. I have decided to raise my blog from the dead again for Halloween, and now that I see there are League of Extraordinary Bloggers type challenges again I may jump in on those too!

Also, ditto on the Stranger Things header, that series is AMAZING!

I'm up for a joint celebration. Who brings the pizza, and who brings the cake?

  4. I can absolutely relate to this post. Like you, I am great at picking up new hobbies and interests only to abandon them soon after. I'll proudly stand next to you on that podium with the silver around my neck.

    1. I will admit, ever since I've started this blog, I haven't really tried to delve into anything else. I was interested enough to do some research into a few things, but ultimately didn't get into it.

      Thank goodness.

  5. Hi Chris!
Three years is a lot of time for a blog, congrats!
What helped me to keep blogging was that a blog post can be just a photo with ta tiny description. The Internet is filled up with people perusing photos that match their interests! :D

    1. I still can't believe I've stuck with it that long. I might start aiming for shorter posts, just so they aren't as tedious to read.
