Brach's Peanut Butter Cup Candy Corn!

I'm not a fan of candy corn. It's not that I actively dislike it, but it's never my first choice of candy. It's just the wrong kind of sweet, and it has that weird waxy texture. I have a hard time with any softer candies that don't actually melt in your mouth. And when they finally melt, they don't get smooth and liquid. No, they fall apart in soft chunks, like a zombie that's been in the water for too long. Imagine my surprise,  then, when I saw that Brach's had discovered my one weakness, and combined it with their waxy Halloween candies.

This isn't the first time that Brach's has released candy corn in flavors other than "real honey", but it's the first time they've added the powers of peanut butter and chocolate. Peanut butter cups might be available year round, but I can't help but associate them with Halloween and Trick R Treating. I can only assume that was Brach's plan as well. Brach's bags have always been rather plain, with very little in the way of adornment. This particular one just shows a peanut butter cup cleaved in twain, that appears to spewing forth a flood of similarly flavored candy corn pieces. Or maybe Brach's is saying that the candy corn pieces actually grow into peanut butter cups, making them tiny, sweet little larvae. I always did enjoy thinking of my food as tiny little creatures, screaming for their lives as I eat them one by one.

When I first opened the bag, the aroma was - and please pardon my language here- fucking amazing. I have to admit, I really didn't have high hopes for these, but when I opened that bag, it made me question everything I had ever doubted. Maybe I was wrong about IPA's, lima beans, and the Democratic party after all. It was like my nose was being massaged by tiny little peanut butter and chocolate angles. Then I tried a few, and it brought me back to reality. I'm not saying they're bad, just that they're good for being candy corn. If you've ever eaten the cheaper brands of PB cups, these will taste familiar. They're just a bit waxier, but the flavor is still reminiscent of not-Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Mysterioulsy, when I decided I wanted to huff more of that peanut butter and chocolate goodness, I discovered the magic was gone. The once beautiful aroma had been replaced by the scent of cheap candied peanut butter. So, be warned. Much like the fabled Grail, once you pass the seal, the magic disappears.

If nothing else, you can use the candy corn pieces to make yourself look like a vampire that desperately needs to brush his teeth.

  2. I tried these since I'm a big peanut butter and chocolate fan. Not a fan. :( I do really like those creme pumpkin candies though, I use them for my little Halloween village.

    1. The aroma is definitely the best part about these, and even that doesn't seem to last long.
